Mr Grainger’s death arose out of a Greater Manchester Police covert investigation named Operation Shire.

On Saturday 3 March 2012, shortly after 7pm, Anthony Grainger was shot dead in Culcheth by an armed firearms officer of Greater Manchester Police.

The Inquiry published its report at 12 p.m on Thursday 11th July 2019.

The Opening Session took place on Tuesday 26th July 2016.

Preliminary Hearing took place on Monday 14th November 2016.

Directions hearing  took  place on Thursday 15th December 2016

The oral hearings commenced on the 17th January 2017 and concluded on Friday 28th April 2017.

The closing remarks were heard on Wednesday 17th May 2017 and Thursday 18th May 2017.

2 days of hearings took place at on 15th and 16th February 2018 at QE11 Law Courts Derby Square Liverpool.
