Chairman to the Inquiry: His Honour Judge Teague QC. Judge Teague was called to the Bar by Inner Temple in 1977. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1993, a Recorder in 1997 and Queen’s Counsel in 2000. In 2006 he was appointed a Circuit Judge. He is assigned to the Northern Circuit and sits at the Queen Elizabeth 11 Law Courts in Liverpool.
In May 2015, the Lord Chief Justice nominated Judge Teague as coroner in the inquest into the death of Anthony Grainger. On the 17th March 2016, the Home Secretary announced her decision to convert the inquest into a public inquiry and appointed Judge Teague as Chairman of the Inquiry.
Lead Counsel to the Inquiry: Jason Beer QC. Called to the Bar in 1992 and took silk in 2011, having previously been Junior Counsel to the Crown, Common Law (A Panel). Jason has previously appeared in the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry, the Shipman Inquiry, the Hutton Inquiry, the Mubarek Inquiry, the Billy Wright Inquiry, the Rosemary Nelson Inquiry, the Baha Mousa Inquiry, the Leveson Inquiry, the Al-Sweady Inquiry, the Azelle Rodney Inquiry and the Goddard Inquiry. He also sits as a Recorder in the Crown Court on the South Eastern Circuit.
Junior Counsel to the Inquiry: Sophie Cartwright. Called to the Bar in 1998 and was appointed as an Assistant Coroner in 2012. Sophie was Counsel to the Anthony Grainger Inquest and has been appointed as Junior Counsel to the Inquiry.
Solicitor to the Inquiry: Lachlan Nisbet. Qualified in 2004. Partner at top 30 law firm in 2010 and moved to Liverpool based leading law firm Brabners LLP in 2013. Acted for military witnesses in the Baha Mousa Inquiry and subsequently the Al Sweady Inquiry. Currently instructed in the Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse.
Secretary to the Inquiry: Sue Curran. Held a senior management position in Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service as Cluster Manager for the Greater Manchester Civil/Family and Tribunal Courts. In 2014 joined the Hillsborough Inquests’ Secretariat before being appointed as Secretary to the Anthony Grainger Inquiry.
